Our Care
What is conventional medicine?
Conventional medicine is “western” medicine that has been developed over the last 100 years or so using the so-called “scientific method.” It has tended to be reductionist and focuses on organs and organ systems. Typical treatments include pharmaceuticals and surgeries.
What is holistic medicine?
Holistic medicine is a comprehensive approach to understanding and treating health and illness from the “whole person” perspective. By practicing holistic medicine, we are examining the web of interactions that occur between the many different organ systems of the body, the mind-body connections, and environmental influences on health and disease. Nutritional supplements, mind-body therapies, and lifestyle interventions might be some of the treatments that are initiated using this approach.
What happens at a comprehensive physical exam?
Comprehensive physical exams provide the foundational data upon which your care at Revati is based. It is the first step for all new Patient Members, and is repeated annually to ensure that your health and wellness goals are being met.
Tools
- 24-hour heart rate recording (Holter monitor) for the evaluation of the fight or flight branch of the nervous system
- Body composition measurements, which evaluate muscle mass, fat mass, and cellular fluid measurements
- Vascular ultrasound evaluation for the detection of early indicators for coronary heart disease
- Special laboratory testing that goes beyond the traditional cholesterol to examine subfractions of cholesterol, genetics, and markers for inflammation
- Coronary calcium CT score (as appropriate)
Our Comprehensive Physical Exams represent the leading edge in preventive care and help us to identify and address your personal health care needs. Each annual exam is then followed by an in-depth appointment to discuss test results and make recommendations to realize your optimal health.
What is Massage Therapy?
Massage has been used throughout time in traditional healing and medicine. We know today that massage therapy is one of the best treatments for stress, a major cause of heart disease. Using proper techniques, massage therapy can boost your immune system, decrease muscle tension, improve blood and lymph circulation, lower blood pressure, reduce ischemia, and improve delivery of oxygen and nutrients to all parts of your body.
The Revati Wellness massage therapist uses a variety of techniques, including Swedish and deep tissue to stimulate circulation and promote relaxation; positional release and neuromuscular for those “tight knots” that may cause you pain and discomfort; and myofascial release to improve the mind-body connection by working the connective tissue. Reiki is also available to boost the effectiveness of every massage through the mindful focus of the therapist on you and your overall well-being.
Your Health
What is insulin resistance?
Insulin resistance occurs when the cells in the body do not effectively transport sugar (glucose) from the bloodstream into the cells, where it is used for production of energy. Insulin, which is produced in the pancreas, signals the cells to begin this transport process. When the cells become resistant to insulin, the pancreas needs to pump out more insulin to keep the blood glucose levels within a normal range. This results in high levels of insulin and then in elevated glucose levels following meals. Eventually this leads to elevated fasting glucose levels and then to diabetes. Insulin resistance can promote inflammation in the blood vessels and has been shown to be an important risk factor for heart disease.
Fortunately, insulin resistance can be treated effectively through lifestyle and medical treatments. These therapies can reverse insulin resistance and prevent heart disease and the progression to diabetes.
What does Disease Reversal mean?
Many medical conditions have been shown to have the ability to be prevented or reversed through the adoption of healthy lifestyle habits and optimal conventional medical therapy. Disease reversal has been shown to be possible in coronary heart disease, diabetes, and some types of cancer. Most programs focus either on lifestyle habits or on conventional medical therapy. Rarely do programs offer a combined, comprehensive approach to disease reversal.
At Revati Wellness, we integrate techniques in lifestyle coaching, conventional medicine, and scientifically proven applications of holistic medicine to optimize your body’s ability to heal and reverse disease. We have the tools and team not only to prevent the progression of disease, but to actually reverse it.
It takes dedication by both the patient and the health care team to achieve superior results. We realize that our program is not for everyone, but if you are dedicated and serious about your health, we can provide the tools and expertise to help guide you to better health.
Health Care Questions
Do you participate in health insurance plans?
We participate with an ever-growing list of insurance plans. If you are a member of a participating insurance plan, you will be responsible for copays and insurance deductibles as per your insurance contract obligations. If you are not a member of an insurance plan that we contract with, then we will bill your insurance and accept your out-of-network reimbursement rate, which may also be subject to yearly deductibles.
If I need hospital care, which hospital should I use?
Dr. Morledge has admitting privileges to Hillcrest Hospital, a Cleveland Clinic Health System community hospital. If specialized care is needed, he can arrange hospital transfers to the Cleveland Clinic.
If patients are admitted to hospitals other than Hillcrest, Dr. Morledge can facilitate communication with the admitting physician. He does not have admitting privileges to other hospitals and cannot direct care but will make every effort to assure excellent communication and arrange close followup after hospital discharge.
How does Revati use electronic medical records?
At Revati Wellness, we use Epic’s “My Practice Community,” the same electronic medical record (EMR) system that is used at the Cleveland Clinic. This provides us with the opportunity to communicate and share information seamlessly with specialists at the Cleveland Clinic. We can also obtain your medical information using this secure patient EMR system if you have had health care at the Cleveland Clinic. Your secure medical information is also available in the event that you should require admission to a Cleveland Clinic Health System Hospital. This can help assure that vital information is readily available at all times during hospitalization and that complete hospital records are easily accessible for follow-up care.
If you are a patient outside of the Cleveland Clinic Health System, then we can obtain or provide information to other health-care providers using traditional methods and can leverage our electronic medical records to make this efficient and effective.
Part of the Epic EMR system includes “My Chart.” This is a fantastic tool to communicate non-urgent medical needs and send results via a secure web-based tool. Lab results will often arrive in your inbox the very same day that they were drawn. At Revati Wellness, we believe that this technology can help us provide optimal communication and care for you.

What are group sessions?
It has been well documented in the medical literature that participation in group sessions can positively impact the success of disease prevention and disease reversal programs. We designed our office with group meetings in mind. We offer group sessions for participants who are involved in lifestyle coaching as part of our heart attack and stroke prevention program, and for a variety of other conditions. We also have periodic group sessions for general educational purposes.
